The CyanogenMod team has been working hard: CM7RC4 released
Posted on 31 March 2011 No commentsIf a few days ago we said that the CyanogenMod team had released the CM7RC3 rom, since 7 hours ago you can download the new release CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC4.
According to their blog, this new release fix some bugs. They also say that they are approaching the final state, in which they will release a stable version.
It is important to notice that in the blog they point this rom as the most stable version of CM7, and that it will probably be the last RC (Release Candidate) before the final stable release rolls out.Download ONE

Video-Tutorial: How to update with Rom Manager
Posted on 23 March 2011 3 commentsAfter the doubts in the forum about the upgrade to CyanogenMod’s Gingerbread Rom of the next Geeksphone ZERO, I have decided to upload a video, explaining how it works the upgrade using the aplication Rom Manager. The ZERO brings Rom Manager by default. The video has been made with the ONE, as I have not the ZERO yet, but it works the same. (For know, the video is in spanish, but as soon as I can, I will translate it to english)
We launch the application, press in Download Rom, and choose between de different available options. We choose from the Stable Roms, in the case of the ZERO, we will choose the last version of CyanogenMod, CM7RC3 (bear in mind that this is a Release Candidate Version). Once we have selected the ROM, we will be prompted if we want to install any extra packages, in my case, I choose the Google Apps. After this, Rom Manager begin the download of the selected packages. Once they download has finished, we just have to install the updates. To do this, we can use again, the Rom Manager -> Install update from SD card, or just reboot into the recovery and install the update from zip and the gapps. As soon as I have time, I will record a second video so you can see this process.

Platform Versions – Fragmentation
Posted on 21 March 2011 No commentsToday we will do a short review of the current distribution of android versions, and what is the main problem currently of the android platform, Android fragmentation:

Platform API Level Distribution Android 1.5 3 3.0% Android 1.6 4 4.8% Android 2.1 7 29.0% Android 2.2 8 61.3% Android 2.3 9 0.7% Android 2.3.3 10 1.0% Android 3.0 11 0.2% As we can see, the number of devices with Cupcake and Donut (1.5 and 1.6) has drop down to a 7.8% between both of them. The first devices of Gingerbread (2.3 and 2.3.3) begin to show, including the ONE thanks to CyanogenMod (specially to Ricardo) and Super@tmel, and how the percentage of devices with Eclair (2.1) has been also reduced, while the percentage of Froyo (2.2) has increase up to beeing the winner with a 61.3%.
This data is important for developing applications, because it gives us a fair idea of the percentage of devices that will be able to use our applications depending of the minimum SDK which we target our applications.
